The Polar Bears
were asked by the Borders Vintage Automobile Club to run a Dream Rides
at their Thirlestane Castle Show in June. We decided to give it a go and
see what would happen, with the hope of it becoming a regular event.
So, a lot of work and effort went into organising this and everyone who
helped should give themselves a huge pat on the back. The three that
stand out for extra mention are Karen Niven for getting the cars, Tony
Woods for general organization and worry and Brian Kirkness for
cleaning, vinyling, cutting and grooving the twenty one tubs and posts
for the bunting.
On the day we managed 15 cars which was pretty good considering we lost
3 to an accident with a prat in a Porsche 911. We ended up with:-
2 TVRs - Geff Yates & Peter Catchpole
2 Lotuses - Andrew Lake & Tony Abrams
2 Porsches - Jonathon Gilbert & Johnny Rushbrook
2 Morgans - Simon Scott & Phil Roberts
original Mini Cooper - Ken Tully
BMW MINI Cooper Jim Harris
Mercedes SLK George Dodds
TR6 Brian Short
MG B Bill Niven
MG P-type Malcolm Kirby
1929 Bentley Nigel Stacey-Marks
The star of the show was Nigel in his Bentley, he was out continuously
and it was well worth the tenner a head! The other cars were slow but
steady with the Lotuses and the TVRs attracting a good crop of young
lads.
Sheila Shorrick and Ann Davison did sterling work with a collecting box
relieving people of their small change and amassing a whisker off £200.
The final tally was £900 raised by Dream Rides, £231 from the collecting
box and the sale of two bears. We also added £190 from Polar lunch
raffles and £86.50 from the sale of MG bits donated by Martin Whitelaw,
so thats quite a decent sum for REACT. Well done everyone!
