SACHD (Scottish Association for Children with Heart Disorders) is a small charity that Jim Kelman became involved with because his youngest son was born with a heart disorder - he had surgery at 7 days old and has never looked back!  Jim and his wife did some work for the charity, then about 1993 decided that they should do more and Jim took over as Chairman at Branch and then National level.

SACHD don’t have premises and there are no paid staff - all members and workers are volunteers and this keeps admin costs down to the minimum - only £179 out of the £10,550 raised in the Edinburgh area was spent on branch administration!

8 in every 1000 children are born with a heart disorder and SACHD helps those that need it. In the last year they spent –

£4000 on a Cardiovascular Bypass system.

£1637 on a Heart Start Machine given to a family

£6000 on a Cpap Driver

£1995 on 5 INR Machines for adults (50 for Children through Yorkhill)

£39700 on Patient Monitoring Systems mounted at bedsides

£3000 to Social Work Departments
