The Caper Sideways Whot A Cracker. |

The weekend did not start with good weather; a lot of the entrants including us suffered rain on the way to The Fat Lamb. But spirits were raised on the Friday evening with a good meal, a bottle or two and a 50th birthday celebration, with all the usual gay repartee.

Caroline had sent an e-mail to Mary and I saying could we get a suitable cake for Mike, so we did [see picture] we also got a blue light for him in the shape of an alarm clock. Saturday dawned dry, cloudy and B----Y cold, but DRY. With 23 cars at the start we unfortunately dropped to 22, when our founder members T.R. 3A gave up and decided not to play. Our sympathy to Chris and Pat who took it home on Sunday morning on the relay leaving the rest of us to enjoy the open roads of The Pennines.

On Sunday morning it was dry again and they all set off into the hinterland again with an ice cream or two thrown in for good measure at the ice cream farm. But all too soon it was Sunday lunch time and we had to say goodbye to all the entrants. We’d had a really great weekend the weather had been dry on both days but it was bitterly cold.

Mary and I would like to thank all the entrants to The Caper Sideways for making it such a great time, and we managed to raise with the help of our sponsors and the remains of the entry fee the grand sum of £535.22 which will go to ASBAH in Cumbria. We are thinking about next year but, who knows.

***************************************************************** Some of the comments on the tour. What a fantastic weekend. The drives were better than ever and the fun and friendship were a real treat. You provided the opportunity for us to drive roads long forgotten about and in spectacular country. Who gave them permission to use our road?
