HIGHLAND FLING 2009

People arrived “from a’ the airts” to enjoy the delights of Dalmunzie Castle – great atmosphere, delicious food and fantastic service.  As the tour had a royal theme, Friday night’s table competition was a Victoria and Albert Quiz.

Saturday saw the group heading for the Queen’s View overlooking Loch Tummel, a lunch stop at Fortingall to view the ancient yew tree in the kirk yard and then on to Loch Tay and a tour of the reconstructed crannog.  Everyone enjoyed dressing up for the champagne reception and gala dinner.  The hotel bar had a wide selection of malt whisky which proved popular.

There was a leisurely start to Sunday morning before heading over the Devil’s Elbow to Braemar then on along Deeside to catch a few 2nd division Royals attending Crathie Church.  A stop at Ballater Station, frequently used by Victoria and Albert, proved popular then it was over Cairn o’ Mount and down into Angus for a tour of Glamis Castle, former home to the late Queen Mother.

Monday’s drive took in Glen Isla then on into Dundee for a visit to the Discovery Centre with its exhibition on Polar exploration before going aboard the RRS Discovery to get a feel for what it was like for Captain Scott, his crew and the team of scientists during their historic voyage.

This year’s Highland Fling raised over £1,200 which is being donated to the CHAS at Home Service.  Many thanks to all participants for their generosity and great company.
