St Piers Lingfield

St Piers is the National Centre for children and young people with epilepsy and other special needs. St Piers is a unique learning environment for some 220 students, a partner with Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust, and the leading provider of services for young people with epilepsy in the UK. The national centre is based at a 200 acre rural site in Lingfield, Surrey Epilepsy, which affects 1 in every 200 children, is the most common severe neurological condition in the world. It can exist on it’s own, or with a range of physical, behavioural or intellectual disorders. St Piers services include children with autism and other neurological disorders that require specialised support. “With it’s 100 year history, St Piers has developed a unique knowledge of epilepsy. We seek to create the very best learning and care environment for our students. We also look firmly to the future, and we are developing new services that will reach out to students with epilepsy – and their carers – in the wider community. It is time epilepsy came out of the shadows, and at St Piers we are committed to achieving that.”

This is a photograph of Janna Rowe (SBMC Members - Chris & Corrine’s daughter) taken in the new soft playroom at Brooker House, St. Piers School in Lingfield. (Janna was a pupil here until July 1999 and, indeed, a resident at Brooker House during part of her time at St. Piers). In 1999, the Sporting Bears provided £2,000 for the conversion of the room for a new soft play area. The room is a very useful addition to the house and greatly appreciated by the girls at Brooker House.
