CULZEAN AUTOCLASSICA
At our February meeting the Polar Bears decided to take part in a new and exciting classic car event - the Culzean Autoclassica, which aims to become the premier classic car event in Scotland, a sort of "McGoodwood". Their trial event last year was very successful and this year promises to be even better. The event replaces the Callander Classic car show, and already anticipates well over 1,000 entries - and it's still only March, and the event isn't until August! Culzean Castle is a National Trust property, and is an imposing castle overlooking the sea on the West coast of Scotland near Ayr, well worth a visit in itself, even without all these lovely cars to look at! The event takes place over 4 days, with the main activities on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24th. The full programme is shown in the panel on the right. Visit the Autoclassica website at www.culzeanautoclassica.com for individual events – there’s so much going on, it’s impossible to cover it all here. We will have a stand where we will be selling bears, big and small, in aid of children's charities. We are also planning to hold a teddy bears’ picnic with food and fun for all the teddy bears and their carers. Over the day, there will be demonstration runs and convoys through the show, which clubs will be invited to participate in - so you might get a chance to show off your pride and joy on the move (and give those teddies a bit of a run at the same time). We also plan to take part in the spirit of the event by appearing in period dress. Autoclassica's web site suggests, for the gentlemen "40s, 50s, 60s Elegant / Sporty / Smart / Outrageous e.g. mechanic, photographer, serviceman, policeman of the time or sportsman in tweed cap or trilby with slacks and a white shirt, maybe a tie or cravat although both jackets and ties are not essential", while for the ladies "a dress/frock or skirt/slacks and blouse, ideal opportunity to perhaps wear a hat. Film stars to nurses." Use your imagination - it's up to you! There will be an entry fee of £6 per car, which covers the Saturday and Sunday, although Bears may attend on one day only if they prefer. Please join us for what promises to be an excellent weekend. Names please (and details of accompanying vehicle) to Andrew Carrie at andrew.carrie@blueyonder.co.uk. Please indicate if you’ll be coming on the Saturday, Sunday or both.

| CAR NEWS Tony has sold his Ice Blue MGB (under some pressure from Iris methinks) and has bought a metallic green MG TF 135. Brian Short and his old TR6 appeared in the Scotsperson Mystery Motor section - snapped by the photographer while setting up the 2006 Selkirk SBMC stand. Is that George that I see in the background? |
