FROM YOUR EDITOR

Thanks to Keith and Ann Davison for a photo of Ann at the Three Counties Caper in April and thanks to Jim Harris for more envelopes, paper and stamps. Many thanks to everyone who helped at Thirlestane Castle - it was quite a day! --- Helen

Above is a photo of Ann Davison on the Three Counties run. There's no truth in the rumour that Keith is changing his car for a bus. Ding Ding!

DREAM RIDES AT THIRLESTANE CASTLE

Three bimbos and a bear take a ride in Nigel's Bentley

Queuing for Dream Rides at Thirlestane.

A lot of work and effort went into bringing this off at Thirlestane and everyone should give themselves a huge pat on the back. The three that stand out for extra mention are Karen for getting the cars, Tony for general organisation and worry and Brian K for cleaning, vinyling, cutting and grooving the 21 tubs and posts for the bunting. On the day we managed 15 cars - which was pretty good considering we lost 3 to an accident with a prat in a Porsche 911. We ended up with 2 TVRs (Geoff Yates and Pete Catchpole), 2 Lotuses (Andrew Lake and Tony Abrams), 2 Porsches (Jonathon Gilbert and Johnny Rushbrook), 2 Morgans (Simon Scott and Phil Roberts) 2 Mini Coopers - an original plus a German one (Ken Tully and Jim Harris), a Mercedes SLK (George Dodds), a TR6 (Brian S), an MGB (Bill Niven), an MG P-type (Malcolm Kirby) and a 1929 4.5 litre Bentley (Nigel Stacey Marks). The star of the show was Nigel in his Bentley - he was out continuously and it was well worth the tenner a head! The other cars were slow but steady, with the Lotuses and the TVRs attracting a good crop of young lads.
Sheila and Ann did sterling work with a collecting box, relieving people of their small change and amassing a whisker off £200. The final tally was £900 raised by Dream Rides, £231 from the collecting box and the sale of two bears. We’ll also be adding £190 from Polar lunch raffles and £86.50 from the sale of MG bits donated by Martin Whitelaw - so that’s quite a decent sum for React. Well done everyone!

WELCOME...

to new Polars Simon and Jan Scott from Angus - nice to meet them at Thirlestane and also to Jeff and Mary-Jane Ferris from Coldingham - hope to meet you at on July 30th .

PRESENTATION

From left to right - Brian K, Keith, Fiona, Barbara (CHAS) and Mike.

Cheques and cash totaling £570 (donations in lieu of entry fees for the Highland Fling tour) were presented to Barbara Osborne, the East of Scotland Fundraising Manager for CHAS. Importantly the amount is boosted by the Gift Aid scheme – thanks to all who completed the forms. We hope to raise more money on the tour itself.

CAR NEWS

Tony has finally got fed up with his MGF (leaking hood and head gasket problems) and gone back to a good old MGB - a very tidy, low mileage 1980 LE repainted in ice blue. Will the MGF’s power steering have spoiled him for the parking delights of an MGB with extra fat tyres? Perhaps he’ll be the first to try out that camber/ castor adjusting kit that lightens the steering. And I wonder how long that Weber’ll last!

CELEBRATIONS

Nigel Atkins, his wife Sheila and Liz Parker-Berry all have birthdays and Dick and Pat Northcliff, Jim and Alyson Harris and Brian and Helen Kirkness celebrate anniversaries this month.
Also, George and Sheila are tying the knot on the 17th - hope they have a great day!
