Welcome to this , the first edition of “Polar News”.  It will be our intention to communicate monthly with news and views on Polar activities and to highlight SBMC events across the country.

Polar Bears provided Dream Rides at the Mount Stuart Motorsport Classic, raising nearly £5,000 pounds over the weekend.   Johnny Bute, in black, with (from left standing) Keith and Ann , Iris , Karen, Bill , Tony, Jim, Brian, (from left kneeling) Mike, Alyson and Fiona .  With the help of many more willing Bears the event proved to be a huge success.

The Bears at Gawthorpe Hall

Graham and Nina Boys’ Gourmet Tour, 17-19 October, proved to be great success. Over subscribed well in advance.

The tour has raised £632.77 over the weekend, and we are working to round this up to £1000 for Redbridge High School.

The Bears went “interactive” on Wigan Pier, going back in time at “The Way We Were” exhibition. It was back to school in 1900 for some good old-fashioned discipline.

At Gawthorpe Hall we were all interviewed, but typically failed to meet the standards to work in the house—some of us being issued with shovels and sent in the direction of the stables. Serious amounts of food and wine were consumed in true Bears tradition and a fantastic amount was raised.

Many thanks to Nina and Graham

My Dream Ride….….in a Ferrari 360 Modena, on Bute.  A first for both being on Bute and having a ride in a Ferrari.  I think I probably smiled the whole time. If not, I was certainly feeling happy and enjoyed the experience. I could have booked it to last all day!

Having had a secret love affair with Ferrari cars for a while, I just loved my dream ride (did I tell you that already?)  I have previously sat in and looked at Ferrari cars wherever spotted e.g. Modena, Milan, Glenvarigill’s showroom (very understanding staff there).  Without much encouragement I will tell you… or anyone really, about the time I drove the 75 mile route Ferrari test drive all new cars on around the narrow country roads from the factory.

I think by now you realise I do feel a little passionate about Ferrari cars, although on a daily basis I do love to drive my Mini Cooper S.

Presentation To REACT

38 Years!—Wow!

Bob and Mary Smith recently celebrated 38 years of wedded bliss.  When I asked Mary “What is your secret of being together for so long” She replied “I couldn’t get my motorbike to start 38 years ago!”

Congratulations to you both and wishing you Happy Retirement from all your all your friends in the Bears.

Dream Rides

These were discussed at the last Polar Bears’ Lunch.  Our first “Dream Rides”, in Dundee, was organised with only four weeks notice and raised £1500 in 2 days with 4 Cobras.  The second event at Mount Stuart raised £4800 in 2 days with 20 cars.  The Polar Bears have now organised a group to look at further “Dream Rides” in 2004.
