Polar Bears News Letter number 2

December 2003

A regular look at what they have been up to in the far north

Home

Welcome to the second edition of “Polar News”.

You Little Bute

The date for the Mount Stuart Motorsport Classic, on the Isle of Bute, has been confirmed for the weekend of 31st July/1st August 2004.

Much debate continues on our possible presence at this event.  If it’s on you will need to book your accommodation early. “WATCH THIS SPACE.”

NEC - Classic Car Show

Another successful day for Mick Bryan and all supporting Bears raising over £1,000. Jim even sold his Dolomite Sprint, which, thanks to Nigel’s polishing, proved too tempting for its new Irish owner.  Thanks to Pete Catchpole - your magazines helped to raise over £114.  An unsuspecting member of the public was persuaded to part with something quite special, which in turn has been “presented” to Tony Woods.  I am sure Tony will surprise us all at the Auchen Castle Christmas lunch meeting.

No Truth!

There is no truth in the rumour that Jim will be having another TVR, but thanks for the suggestion John and Lorna.  (There is only so much pain one man can take.)  Has anyone else any ideas?

SBMC – AGM

This took place on 16 November and it’s “all change!”.  Colin, our chairman, is to stand down and hand over to Andrew Lake, our current Treasurer.  Colin says he looks forward to getting involved in the Anglia Region and giving us Polar Bears a run for our money.  (We can’t let him get away with that!)  Sheila Atkins has taken over the role of Secretary.

Polars in High Places

High fliers, Bob and Mary Smith, are now committee members and Janet McPherson is taking on Membership Secretary duties.  A huge thanks to all officials for their time and effort on behalf of all Bears.

New Bears Welcome!

Martin Borrill – County Durham

Ian Lumsden – Fife

Phil Miners – Cumbria

John Vance – Fife

Please use your membership forms to encourage new Polar Bear members.  If you are a member of a motoring club, why not encourage a friend to join the Bears as their second club.  Use the latest forms with new Membership Secretary Janet McPherson’s contact details on.  If you need more, please ask!

Dundee Cake

“It was a piece of cake” said Tony and Ed after being interviewed live by Graeme Waggot of Radio Tay FM when the cheques for £750 each were presented to CHAS and Care for Kids on 26 November.  The presentation was made by Ed Strachan, who masterminded the Dream Rides at City Quay, Dundee earlier this year.  It was such a success that we have definitely been invited back next year to do a bigger event.  The dates set for 2004 are 3rd and 4th July, so there’s plenty of time to prepare.

Missing Jackets

There are two blue and yellow shower-proof jackets missing from Bute.  Please check if you have them and contact Tony Woods on 0131 445 2908 to arrange their return.

Hibernation

Before you batten down your hatches for winter, tell us what you’re up to!  Let us know of any interesting project or holidays etc.  I have it on good authority that two “Polars” are getting hitched next summer.
