ST OSWALD’S

Bob and Ann Selby, Jeff and Mary-Jane Ferris and George and Sheila Dodds presented a cheque for £700 to St Oswald's, the children's hospice which is located in Gosforth.  They were surprised but delighted to be given a tour of the facilities which benefit children of all ages and their families from the Newcastle-upon-Tyne area.  The money was raised by the sales of bears when the Polars had a stand at both the Corbridge Classic Car Show and the Coldingham Gala Day.  Generous public donations, a cheque from the Gala Day Committee and a top-up from the Club were included in the amount.

CHILDREN’S HOSPICE ASSOCIATION SCOTLAND

In November Fiona Davies presented the balance of the Highland Fling Tour donations to Jayne Forbes, the new CHAS fund raiser for the Edinburgh area.  Also present were Jeff and Mary-Jane Ferris, Tony and Iris Woods, Bill Niven and Keith Davison. The total raised by the 2008 Fling was £1430, much of which was gift-aided by participants in lieu of an entry fee.  David Marsh, a member of the Mandate Chapter in London, was again very active in his pre-Fling fund-raising for CHAS by persuading fellow members to donate £330.

JAMES RENNIE SCHOOL

Andrew Carrie, who masterminded the Culzean Teddy Bears' Picnic, made the presentation at the end of October of £700 to Corrina Cartwright, Headteacher of the James Rennie School in Carlisle.  He was accompanied by Mike and Fiona Davies in her Toyota MR2 and David Bruce in his TVR “Wedge”.  Afterwards the kids had a good look at the cars with many of them getting in and taking the wheel.

The Polar Bears were delighted to have Corrina as their guest at their Christmas Lunch in December when she gave a most informative talk on the work of the school.  We look forward to supporting them again in the future.

ZOE'S PLACE

Eileen Middleton, Nurse Manager of Zoe’s Place, Middlesborough receives a £600 cheque from Polar Bear Brian Short. This was made up of the £540 from Polar lunch raffles and generous donations from the Mandate Chapter (a member was on the last Highland Fling)- topped up by the SBMC committee. Some of the children from Zoe’s place enjoyed the presentation - especially the one having
